Plan your Career with AI in 10 minutes

Updated: Mar 22, 2025

I probably use LLMs (ChatGPT's $20/month premium version) more than anyone I know.

I have dedicated chats set up for Resume Revisions, Managing Health & Alcohol, Meditation & Spirituality, and a number of more-personal things I won't chuck right into my very first blog post.

So, when someone asks where to use AI in their lives, my answer is something close to "everywhere". Time will tell if pushing my way to the front of the line to get the Matrix tube plugged directly into my neck was a good idea or not.

Daobloom aims to 100x students' careers, lives, and impacts by putting intentional thought into values and goals. With AI, I think anyone can get to a decent path forward in life in about 10 minutes.

Here's the formula: "HOW TO FIND A CAREER IN 10 MINUTES"

1. write a paragraph or two about your life situation

2. prompt it for a long-term career plan and short-term goals to achieve it

3. revise!

One by one now:

1. Life Situation

Be succinct here — this isn't a therapy session (yet) — but include all necessary details:

  • your personality (introverted? responsible?)

  • your values (time outdoors? financial stability?)

  • your financial situation (6 months of expenses saved? heavily in debt? rich as hell?)

  • competencies — what are you good at in school? what do you enjoy?

  • what are you studying? When will you go to college? Do you even want to go to college?

Here's an example I mocked up as illustration— let's call him Fred:

2. Career Plan

You'll want two things here:

  1. long-term career plan — a North Star to aim at, so to speak.

  2. Short-term steps & routines to get there. Many careers actualize in 1 to 5 to 10 years, so what you do every day will build towards that goal.

PROMPT:

"Based on my description, suggest a long-term career goal and specific short-term steps to achieve it."

Here's what chatGPT recommended to Fred:

  • Careers in the skilled trades, tech or sales.

  • Setting aside 3-6 months of expenses to move out, and doing side gigs to save up that money.

  • Keeping a regular schedule of studying for 1 hour per day, for Fred's new chosen career.

  • Network with local industries and professionals, in the field that Fred will choose.

3. Revise

Finally: revise!

I imagine Fred doesn't like these examples. He'll ask for 10 more:

I feel like Fred just wants to party
I feel like Fred just wants to party

PROMPT:

"Please provide 10 more examples of potential careers"

Having chosen a few, he's interested in who exactly he can network with so he can keeping living it up in the Pearl District:

PROMPT:

"What are 10 local companies in ________ that I can reach out to to pursue a career in _______?"

Don't wait—grab your notebook, open your AI chat, and find your path forward in the next 10 minutes!
